Occupational Therapy

“In the decade or so before [1917], occupational therapy was used primarily in mental health institutions, and what they found was patients who engaged in normal, everyday life activities — like crafts, farming or cleaning — seemed to be more healthy,” Stoffel said.

Occupational Therapy has a holistic approach on helping the child adapting to the environment and task to fit the person. An occupational therapist helps develop skills required for the activities of daily living, independent living and work. Occupational therapy is conducted at centers, schools, nursing homes and in patient’s home. As an occupational therapist the main focus is to provide sense and meaning to the daily life.  After assessing the patient’s physical, psychological and social abilities, a proper environment is developed where a person can carry out daily life activities comfortably and safely.
